Software Engineer, Asset Operations Backend

About Tyba

Tyba is a modeling platform for energy companies developing, financing, and operating renewable energy infrastructure. Energy companies rely on technical models daily to make crucial infrastructure decisions.
Our mission is to make cutting-edge models accessible to cross-functional teams so that companies can build and operate more renewable energy more profitably. We are backed by leading climate and generalist VCs and work with many of the industry’s most innovative energy companies.

The Role

We are looking for a software engineer to join our team and lead key initiatives that deliver high-value features for our battery auto-bidding platform.

You will excel in this role if you’re passionate about clean energy, thrive in fast-paced environments, and have a strong sense of ownership. As a software engineer at Tyba, you will have the opportunity to contribute to a mission-critical product that synthesizes price forecasts and bid optimization algorithms to deliver market-beating returns for our customers. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams, going deep on the intricacies of power markets and their associated systems, turning customer needs into robust engineering solutions. This role primarily involves backend development, with a focus on delivering high-quality, scalable code.

Responsibilities

  • Leading new feature initiatives end-to-end: This includes scoping, feature development (mostly backend, with some collaboration with the frontend team), testing, releasing and monitoring.
  • Performance engineering: Identify, profile, and address computational performance bottlenecks in a live bidding system that must communicate with market systems on strict timelines.
  • Supporting data engineering infrastructure: Contribute to the design, development, implementation, and continuous improvement of our data engineering tools, workflows, processes, and platforms. This includes enhancing the architectural foundations and integrating new data management technologies.
  • Enhancing and stewarding system reliability: Conduct system migrations with minimal downtime, debug and fix production issues + participate in an on-call rotation.

Desired Skills

  • Passion for working in clean energy.
  • 3-4+ years of experience in backend software engineering.
  • Experience with Python, especially deployed in a production context.
  • Experience with SQL, data warehouses, and database performance.
  • Experience using cloud-hosted infrastructure, AWS preferred
  • Ability to work cross-functionally, synthesizing requests from non-technical team members and external parties to craft well-designed engineering solutions.
  • Power markets experience + interest in optimization and/or forecasting is a plus

We understand that everyone’s experience is unique, so if you’re excited about this role, and eager to make an impact on the clean energy transition, but don’t meet every requirement, we encourage you to apply anyway.

Tyba’s Product

Tyba has two main products for customers – Operations and Project Simulation

Operations: Auto-bidding platform, powered by a proprietary neural network, that recommends and executes operating strategies based on industry-leading price forecasts and optimization methodology.

Project Simulation: Configurable simulation platform where developers can model realistic financial and physical outcomes based on location, market dynamics, and battery specifications.

As a software engineer, you’ll primarily work on new features and initiatives for the operations product backend. There are plenty of opportunities for collaboration on other portions of the operations product, such as optimization and market orchestration as well.

Tyba’s Technical Stack

Tyba’s machine learning stack is developed in python and runs on the AWS cloud. We rely on PyTorch for building our neural network architectures.

Compensation and benefits:

  • Salary: $150k-$200k
